Status of Tropical Storm Idalia #9:
(8/31/23) Flooding is currently being observed at multiple points along S. Shore Drive. It is strongly advised that vehicles with low clearance, including passenger cars, avoid using this road. The Town has recorded approximately 6.75 inches of rainfall during this weather event.
After the rainfall diminishes, we anticipate that the stormwater on the road will gradually recede; however, please be aware that this process may be time-consuming. Surf City remains under a Tropical Storm Warning, High Surf Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory, and Rip Current Advisory. We anticipate sustained winds of 25-30 MPH to continue throughout the day. Due to rough sea conditions, individuals are strongly advised to stay out of the ocean until conditions improve.
Although wind impacts will diminish throughout the day, some downed trees and power outages remain possible. At this time, Jones Onslow EMC and Duke Energy are not reporting any power outages in our area,
For second trash pickup customers, please do not recycling or trash carts in the street until after the storm has passed. GFL will resume normal operations on Friday morning. The Surf City bridge remains open for travel and we don't expect any issues as conditions improve throughout the day.
Please stay connected to official Surf City updates on our website, social media, and Code Red as well as other forms of official media and communication. We will continue sending out updates as information is received.
