Status of Tropical Storm Idalia #10:
(8/31/23) Conditions continue to improve around Town as Idalia moves away from the area. The final observed rainfall total was 7.43 inches, and the maximum wind gust was 46 mph, which occurred at 5:45 am. It is anticipated that conditions will continue to improve throughout the day.
While conditions are improving, some standing water continues to be observed along the S. Shore Drive corridor. So long as water still stands, it is strongly advised that motorists refrain from travelling through these areas until the standing water has receded. With the amount of rain received, it will take some time before the water recedes completely. A tropical storm warning, as well as a Rip Current Statement, remains in effect.
Due to the rough sea conditions, individuals are strongly advised to stay out of the ocean until after the storm passes and conditions improve.
For second trash pickup customers, please do not put trash or recycling carts out on the street until after the storm has passed. GFL will maintain normal operations on Friday morning.
The Surf City Bridge remains open for travel, and we don’t expect any issues as conditions improve throughout the day.
Please stay connected to official Town of Surf City updates on our website, social media, and Code Red, as well as other official forms of media and communication. We will continue to update you on the status of Idalia as we observe and receive information. Based on anticipated conditions, the Town’s State of Emergency is expected to be lifted by 12 pm tomorrow, September 1st.
We’d like to thank everyone for your support and hope you are able to enjoy your Labor Day! This is most likely the last update that will be provided from the Town.
